The birth of district agriculture dates back to the year 1949 initially started with few staffs/ officials posted in the district making it to 60 years of establishment till date.

The administrative set up of the district agriculture of west kameng district headed by the district agriculture officer posted in the district headquarter Bomdila assisted by 2 nos. Agri. Dev. Officer, Assistant Research Officer, Assistant Marketing Officer and other field assistants.
Besides these two sub-division Agri. Officer posted at Rupa and Singchung sub-division assisted by A.D.O and A.F.A and 6 nos. of A.D.O circles was created for functioning of the district agriculture.

The district agriculture takes up various programmes yearly helping the farmers by distributing seeds, fertilizers and chemicals and transporting the market surplus to outside of the district. The programmes/ schemes can be seen as under :-

1.Inputs like seeds for cultivation of cash crops and off season vegetables mainly potato and tomato are being distributed to the farmers yearly along with other inputs chemicals, fertilizers on rates fixed by govt. on subsidy, as to commercialize the crops in a large scale.

2. Seeds of high yielding varieties for cultivation of food crops are distributed to the farmers yearly at govt. subsidy rate of 60% margin. The intention of the scheme is to minimize the use of local seeds and maximize use of high yielding varieties.

3. Fertilizer like DAP at subsidy rate of 45% Urea at the rate of 20% and manures at the rate of 80% subsidy are distributed to the farmers yearly.

4. The programme is meant specially for the protection of crops, combating insects pest and pathological pest chemical as well as biological pesticides are distributed timely at the rate of 50% subsidy.
